12 Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Vehicles have been assigned for M1 road, for swift response, in case of road accidents. The development is courtesy of the World Bank, which is supporting the Ministry of Health (MoH).
Government has currently deployed 6 of the ambulances for Blantyre, Ntcheu, Dedza and Lilongwe, according to MoH spokesperson Joshua Malango. The project was announced last November, as trauma centres will be constructed for close-by treatment and these centres are on a K2.2 billion budget.
“The vehicles will have a Doctor, Nurse and an assistant to provide first aid support to those involved in accidents” said Malango.
