As a model for tourism development along Lake Malawi, Government has acquired 17 hectares of lakeshore land for the development of public beaches.
The news was revealed at the 2019 Takulandirani Malawi International Tourism Expo (MITE), announced by Chief Secretary to the Government Lloyd Muhara, who confirmed that the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism has acquired the land for the development of public beaches where everybody is free to go and enjoy.
“Common people who don’t have a cottage should be able to go to the lake and enjoy the amenities of the lake without actually going into a tourist institution” Muhara said, also adding that lakeshore resorts left the common Malawian with nowhere to go for some lakeshore experience and recreation.
