An estimated 276 Malawians have returned to the country on Saturday, fleeing the lockdown in South Africa.
Following the cases of returnees that escaped Kamuzu Stadium before they were tested, responsible authorities have assured that strict security measures have been implemented to ensure that the situation does not happen again. Blantyre’s Covid-19 incident manager Penjani Chunda confirmed that all returnees will first be asked to provide their contact details, get screened and tested at Kamuzu College of Nursing (KCN).
Following the results of the tests, those that test positive will be quarantined right away at KCN or Kameza Isolation Centre for 14 days while those that test negative will be in self isolation with healthcare workers visiting them to see if they are following the advice.
The prior returnees saw a surge in confirmed cases in Malawi to 284, while there are 4 deaths and 42 recoveries.
