2021 is likely to see reduced harvest as armyworms as the Ministry of Agriculture has confirmed that 342,000 hectares of food crops have been attacked by Armyworms.
The Ministry has outlined that the above has taken place in the Southern Region, as the ministry’s spokesperson Gracian Lungu specified that the most affected districts were Nsanje, Chikwawa, Neno, Mulanje, Machinga and Balaka.
In 2017 alone, it was reported that 20 Districts were affected by the fall army worm; that means 2 thirds of the nation’s districts were affected, with floods being reported in the same year. The Farmers Organization Limited (FOL) has tipped local farmers to use treated seeds as remedy for the fall army worm.
