The Deparment of Animal Health and Livestock Development has addressed an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in Mzuzu, saying that to vaccinate about 80,000 cattle in the district, it will cost K400 million.
In February the Ministry of Agriculture issued a ban on slaughtering and movement of cattle in the district and since then, efforts have been made to avoid further spread of the disease. The best solution is to vaccinate the cattle, which is almost half a billion.
Positive that the Ministry of Agriculture will grant the funds, Animal Health Deputy Director Gilson Njunga revealed that a vaccination campaign is in the works.
