ACB Director-General Reyneck Matemba called out the Malawi Revenue Authority for the recruitment process of applicants that were supposed to start on May 25 this year.
Matemba had previously halted MRA Commissioner General, Tom Malata, from recruiting the new officers over possible offenses under the Corrupt Practices Act which might have been committed in the recruitment process. Sticking to his suspicions, Matemba outlined that investigations indeed show that out of 125 candidates that were offered the jobs, 71 were not eligible for the respective posts.
Revealing the findings to journalists yesterday, Matemba said that figures show that 533 candidates were invited for interviews; 487 attended the interviews and 125 candidates were selected as successful. “The list of 125 candidates was sent to the National Intelligence Service for vetting. MRA felt that it was taking time and went ahead to offer jobs to some candidates without the vetting,” Matemba said.
Following the notice to halt the employment in May, 30 people that were supposed to start work, took the matter to court, challenging Matemba’s call.
