The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) invaded the respective residences of the officials from the headquarters of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services headquarters in Blantyre, as the Bureau said the act is an ongoing investigation.

While ACB director general Reyneck Matemba revealed the above, he did not disclose what was actually being searched for in the respective residences. The incident follows a week after  Police apprehended three officials from the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (Mera), as the National Police spokesperson James Kadadzera could no, by that time, disclose what they have been charged with, out of fear of jeopardising investigations that are currently underway.  

Last month, the Anti-corruption bureau (ACB) vowed that people who plundered public funds will be arrested without mercy. Matemba was speaking on Zodiak Broadcasting Station’s Tiuzeni Zoona program, and warned that there will be a crackdown and arrests of corrupt officers. “We have a law which we follow when carrying out duties. If someone broke the law, stealing public money and property, they should not expect that the ACB, Police or Financial Intelligence Authority or MRA will spare them because they are politicians. We won’t,” Matemba warned.
