New terms for Whatsapp include collection of user data to suggest ads, content and other recommendations. Users that will not AGREE with these terms by 8th February, will have their Whatsapp accounts deleted.
Updated policy says that WhatsApp may send you marketing material about Facebook companies, it will use your data collected from the app & other FB services for content suggestions, people recommendations & ads along with service improvements.
However, the terms arrive a month after the United States of America’s Federal Trade Commission (Ftc) sued Facebook for abusing its monopoly by using a ” buy or bury ” strategy to grab rivals and keep smaller competitors at bay. Having bought Whatsapp and Instagram, Facebook has been accused of anti-competitive conduct and using its market dominance to harvest consumer data and reap a fortune in advertising revenues. The FTC therefore pushed to have Facebook sell Instagram and Facebook.
Meanwhile, the new terms will also let merchants communicate with regular users on the platform, it will let businesses integrate other services into chat apps. So third-party apps might be able to read your communication on behalf of the business you’re interacting with, an in-app video player may know your IP address.
