During the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Data Analytics and Business Intelligence Tools Workshop, the ACCA chairperson Wyson Kayira urged accountants to be in sync with the latest technology to stay ahead of competition.
The call comes as a study by the Malawi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) indicated that technology use by businesses has dropped by 58.62%. While other nations’ businesses are adopting the latest of technologies, Malawian businesses have lowered or stopped the use of technologies.
The 2018 decline follows a 2017 drop which registered 78.18%; an incident that is being attributed to power outages that wastes the businesses bundle subscriptions. The study also reports a slight decline in internet usage, which may be attributed to the high cost of communication, as it is noted that email was common in 2018
“We believe that an accountant of today should know more about issues of digital world so that they can be more efficient,” said Kayira.
