The Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (Admarc) has announced buying 5 000 metric tonnes (MT) of maize from suppliers.
Admarc acting chief executive officer Felix Jumbe outlined that the adjustment of the prices from K250 to K310 per kilogramme (kg) attracted many suppliers.
During a tour of Chilambula Admarc Depot in Lilongwe, Jumbe outlined that Admarc will continue rationing maize at 10kg per buyer and at K150 per kg in an effort to avoid vendors from buying in bulk and reselling to Admarc at a profit.
Also according to Jumbe, Admarc projects to buy over 25 000MT in the next 20 to 30 days. Meanwhile, Admarc has been storing around 12 000MT while another 25 000MT is planned to be purchased.
