Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (Admarc) says it has secured K62 billion set to purchase 1 million metric tonnes (MT) of maize.
Making the announcement to journalists, Admarc board director Allan Chiyembekeza stated that the parastatal will be buying white maize only in 300 000MT tranches to ensure that all maize is bought at K150 per kilogram. “Admarc shall only buy white maize for the current season if it is of good quality and sizeable grain, is free from weevils, discolour, any foreign matters and with moisture of less than 13.5%” said Chiyembekeza.
Earlier in May this year, the parastatal announced that Admarc had allocated K210 billion to buy 1.1 million metric tonnes (MT) of maize and K50 billion to purchase 110 000MT of legumes. Prior to the announcement of the K62bn purchase, the parastatal had already bought 2 000MT since the opening of its markets on Wednesday.
