Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (Admarc) has announced allocating K210 billion to buy 1.1 million metric tonnes (MT) of maize and K50 billion to purchase 110 000MT of legumes.
The above was announced by Admarc board chairperson Alexander Kusamba Dzonzi who outlined that the opening of its depots is determined by the moisture content in the specific crops being bought, hence depots will open in the Southern Region first, where the moisture content is favorable.
Last month, the Legumes Development Trust LDT Programs Coordinator Sangwani Makoko expressed dissatisfaction with the prices, stating that the Ministry of agriculture “could have done better because, for groundnuts, we do not know what determined its price. There has been a rise in the price of unshelled groundnuts while the price for shelled groundnuts remains constant,”. However the LDT accepted the prices later on.
