The African Development has committed $45.07 million (K33 billion) to help Malawi in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to a statement by the bank, the funds will be made available through the African Development Fund (ADF) and will be categorised into a concessional loan and a grant. The funds arrive amid spiking coronavirus cases in the country, which reports say will kill the economy by -3.5%.
On the other hand, the bi-annually released publication by the World Bank, states that 880,000 Malawians may go into poverty due to economic constraints caused by the pandemic. As of 13:24pm today, Malawi registered 3709 confirmed cases, 1667 recoveries and 103 deaths.
