African aviation industry has reported immense competition since the beginning of 2019, to an extent that there is a rumored alliance between some airlines in the continent.
The supposedly forming African Civil Aviation has rumored members, namely South African Airways, Kenya Airways and Mauritius Air and Rwanda Air.
Ethiopian Airlines’ success is the suspected reason for the formed alliance, as last year the Ethiopian giant made more than $230 million last year.
In response to the rumored alliance, Ethiopian Airlines responded that even if the alliance is real, the main key to a successful airline is in good governance. “Ethiopian Airlines is not what is hindering their growth; its their governments and their local markets..” said a Zemedeneh Negatu, Global Chairman Fairfax Africa Fund (U.S.) and aviation adviser.
