The Africa Investment Conference will begin today, held virtually and hosted by the United Kingdom (UK) Department of International Trade.
The conference will host 14 African countries including Malawi as it is aimed at focusing on sustainable infrastructure, renewable energy, financial and professional services, and agriculture and agri-tech. Malawi will be fishing for investors in modern agricultural methods as one way of spurring the country’s development.
Minister of Trade Sosten Gwengwe outlined that Malawi is looking for investors specifically in high-value crops and other non-traditional crops including cannabis. “…we will enlighten them that, given the land resource which we have in the Shire Valley and along the lake, we want agricultural commercialisation,” Gwengwe said.
