AGRIMINISTRY INTRODUCES FERTILIZER POLICY
The Minister of Agriculture Lobin Lowe has hailed the National Fertiliser Policy as a means to ease challenges that are negatively affecting the country’s fertiliser market.
The policy launch follows after it was endorsed by the Ministry in 2018; the policy encourages soil testing and extension support to improve the use and performance of fertilisers. During the launch of the policy yesterday, Lowe said it will promote efficient use of fertilisers and the timely availability and accessibility of high quality fertiliser. “ It will also lead to increased use of appropriate cutting edge technologies in fertiliser usage.” said Lowe.
The policy will see the formation of a National Fertiliser Commission to champion policing of fertiliser quality standards adherence by producers, blenders and suppliers, whilst confronting adulterated fertilizers. “As a country, we need to create an enabling environment to attract investors to open a [fertiliser] manufacturing plant.” said Lowe.
