Auction Holdings Limited (AHL) went on a 4 month streak of unpaid salaries since September last year, as infuriated workers held demonstrations and laid down tools. In a new development, State produce marketer Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (Admarc) has given a bail out of K6 billion to AHL, to manage the crisis.
Admarc board chairperson Alexander Kusamba Dzonzi confirmed that Admarc was bailing out its subsidiary in form of a loan that will be paid back.
Last year, AHL employees held a vigil at their Limbe offices in Blantyre demanding payment, especially since management had promised to settle their dues. AHL Group Public Relations Manager, Tereza Ndanga Chirwa, acknowledged the hardships that have led to employees’ vigil, but outlined that some employees were paid on the said date. “Management would want to see this matter being resolved as soon as possible and the engagements with our financiers are being undertaken within that same understanding.” said Chirwa.
