Following the anti-smoking lobby by the World Bank, Auction Holdings Limited has advised tobacco farmers to diversify their farming, so that they will not feel the pinch of a lowered demand by buyers.
Speaking during a field meeting at Mhuju in Rumphi District on Tuesday, Mzuzu Auction Floors Manager, Happy Chifungwe said this year’s tobacco season was marred by low prices and high rejection rate.
Recently, the AHL Group Public Relations Manager, Tereza Ndanga, advised tobacco farmers to grow within the given quotas. On the other hand, Ndanga urged the farmers to take advantage of the AHL 252 mobile platform. The platform has assorted information from transaction notifications, tobacco sales quota and many more. Previously, tobacco farmers were going to AHL offices to check for such data; the platform hence serves as easier and faster means of information access.
