The current renovations going on at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe, will boost the safety of aircrafts, says the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA)
The DCA’s Head of Air Traffic management Alex Jabu briefed the media that new radar equipment has been installed to detect aircrafts passing through the country.
He also outlined how the new equipment will bring in more revenue by collecting from planes passing by Malawi’s routes.
The rehabilitation works are aimed to complete during the set deadline which is end of March this year. The airport has boasted that the new infrastructure will last about a hundred years.
In January this year, South African Airways (SAA) has canceled Chileka airport as a route, due to ‘non compliance’ findings by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA), which indicated that the airport’s infrastructure was not up to standard. Hopefully Kamuzu Airport looked into the standards and followed suit.
