In a report released by Airtel Africa, the telecommunications company has combined all 14 countries in which it operates, summing up their progress as a whole.
During the second quarter ending 30 September 2018, the Company’s revenues grew by 10.8%, led by strong growth in data and Airtel money transactions. Mobile data traffic expanded by 53% to 89 Bn MBs. While data customer base increased by 32.1% to 27.1 Mn, Airtel Money customer base increased to 12.9 Mn, boosting the total transaction value on Airtel Money platform by 31% to $ 6.3 billion.
The report also shows that there has been growth in voice usage per customer. As of September 2017, it was registered that a minimum of 164 minutes was used per user, while in September 2018, an increase of 14.6% was noted, registering a new minimum minutes usage of 189 minutes per user.
Perhaps the networks availability in the African countries has contributed to its growth, noting that users don’t have to switch their cards upon visiting a new country. Airtel Africa operates in 14 countries across Africa, namely: Nigeria, Chad, Congo B, Democratic Republic of Congo,Gabon, Madagascar, Niger, Kenya, Malawi, Seychelles, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Rwanda.
