A notice dated 11 December 2019 has confirmed that Airtel Malawi to list on the main board of the Malawi Stock Exchange
(MSE). On the other hand, Airtel Malawi Managing Director Charles Kamoto, has hailed the upcoming development a significant milestone in the company’s evolution.
The development happens 2months after Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) fined Airtel Malawi a sum of K820 million for failing to comply with minimum local shareholding requirements. Airtel had up to November 2018 to comply with the requirement which they did not, and were then fined K500 million.
Moving forward, Airtel Malawi announced that it would implement the required minimum local shareholding requirements, therefore hailing the intent to enlist on MSE. Part of the notice reads, “Airtel Malawi aims to list on the MSE pending market conditions and subject to the approval Of the requisite authorities”
MSE has seen firms willing to enlist, having passed a decade without enlisting any firm, as Icon Properties ended the 10 year streak earlier this year.
Airtel Malawi plc is the country’s leading mobile service provider Offering 4G/LTE.2G and 3G wireless networks: and high speed fixed broadband internet services. “ Starting operations in 1999 Airtel Malawi has been ingrained in the fabric of the country.” says the statement.
