In continuation of its corporate social responsibility ‘Touching Lives’ program, leading telecoms network provider Airtel, through funds from the Airtel Money Trust on Thursday 10 brand new state of the art HP desktop computers to Mbandira community Technical College (CTC) in the border district of Nkhotakota.
Mbandira CTC counts as the eighth of 11 technical colleges that Airtel Money Trust will be supporting with brand new computers. Airtel Malawi Senior Zonal Business Manager Nixon Makawa the donated computers aimed at supporting the ITC component at the college.
The program to donate computers to CTCs will help boost technology use and computer literacy in Malawi, as study by the Malawi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) showed that technology use by business firms has dropped by 58.62%.
As neighboring countries businesses are adopting the latest of technologies, Malawian businesses have lowered or stopped the use of technologies. The 2018 decline follows a 2017 drop which registered 78.18%; an incident that is being attributed to power outages that wastes the businesses bundle subscriptions. The study also reports a slight decline in internet usage, which may be attributed to the high cost of communication, as it is noted that email was common in 2018.
