Upon vendors’ suspicions of crude oil deposits in Limbe, a lab analysis has concluded that the area does not have the oil, after  the Ministry of Mining sent a technical team of experts to the alleged site to conduct detailed geological investigations and collect samples.

“Field investigations and sample analytical results on the alleged oil occurrence in Limbe reveals that the substance was a refined petroleum product, specifically, diesel.” said the Secretary for Mining, Joseph Mkandawire.

On the other hand, the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has exposed some of the country’s imported fuel as being adulterated, a situation that may harm vehicle’s engines. To curb such, MBS director general Symon Mandala revealed that the bureau will launch a monitoring program at the borders to test the fuel that enters the country. The development was announced at Songwe border, where the director also bemoaned the entry of uncertified goods into the country.
