During a press briefing held recently, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General, Reyneck Matemba, confirmed that Former President Peter Mutharika has been cleared from  the K145 million case in which businessman Zameer Karim allegedly deposited the sum in a Democratic Progressive Party bank account whose sole signatory was Mutharika.

The ACB Director General outlined that the former president has been cleared because there was no evidence against him. “ACB’s legal and prosecution department plus independent veteran prosecutors concluded after a review of the evidence that the former president had no case to answer in the Zameer Karim police food rations case. And following the change of government, I have discussed the issue with the Attorney General, Chikosa Silungwe, to review the case,” Matemba said.

On the other hand, Matemba told members of the press that Thom Mpinganjira will appear before the High Court on October 22.
