About 48 people in Lilongwe have been arrested for arson and damage to property at Kumbali Country Lodge in the city.

The incident follows a land dispute between the owner of the lodge, Guy Pickering and neighboring residents. On the other hand, the National Police spokesperson James Kadadzera could not confirm the exact number of arrested individuals, but he confirmed that arrests were made and there are more to come.  

According to reports, Chaos started when the villagers went into the premises of the lodge and torched seven vehicles and other buildings at the lodge. The residents are said to have been angered by the arrest of fellow villagers who were apprehended for encroaching into the lodge.
