A website addressed as evisa.gov.mw is offering digital visa applications. The innovative e-Visa platform is aimed at providing sound migration management and achieve timely issuance of relevant documents to eligible persons for national security and socio-economic development.
The platform offers Tourist Visa, Official Visa, Transit Visa, Diplomatic Visa and Courtesy Visa. These types of visas can further be classified into single entry, multiple entry and transit entry depending on the nature of the visit, as single entry visa is valid for three months and can be used once upon entry into Malawi.
The development is being spearheaded by the Malawi Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services, which announced earlier this year that its services will digitalise its payments and application services to ease access with users.
The announcement followed years of people queuing at the immigration offices for at least 2 hours each, depending on the services they were applying for. The Department’s National Public Relations Officer Joseph Chauwa expressed that the digital services have been in the works for a long time. True enough, it the immigration website had digital application options, which are yet to be officially launched by March.
