Police in Zomba confirmed having an FDH Bank Clerk in custody for stealing over K2.7 million in customers’ bank accounts.

The bank clerk, Costa Maunje, 34, who works at Mulanje FDH Bank branch was arrested alongside Gift Blugama aged 31 as Zomba Public Relations Officer Patricia Sipiliano said a tip revealed that the suspects were withdrawing money from customers’ accounts.

Maunje confessed to stealing money amounting to K2,702,000 from a customer’s account, while detectives recovered another one million from the first suspect’s phone. Police in Zomba got hold of the suspects when they were in the area to steal money from another account whose owner is based there.
