The Institute of Bankers (IOB) conducted a workshop, attended by various players in the banking sector, to equip them in leadership skills. The audience of the workshop were a total of 20 officials from Nedbank CDH Investment Bank, National Bank of Malawi, MyBucks Banking Corporation and FDH Bank.
IOB Chief Executive Officer Lynes Nkungula, said the Leadership and Supervisory Skills training workshop equipped its attendees in effective leadership skills, as that is important for the banking sector. “Successful supervisors develop effective communication skills. A supervisor who is a good listener is a proactive supervisor” said Nkungula, stressing about the importance of communication skills in the banking sector.
“Communicate frequently with the people you supervise about future plans, projects and goals” said Nkungula, who noted that supervisors criticize more than they acknowledging a job well done. “When employees feel valued they are more productive and more committed to getting the work done” she added.
