The Bankers Association of Malwi has released a statement on emphasizing the use of face masks in all commercial banks in the country.
The development Follows after government also mandated the use of face masks in all of its institutions, stressing that clients would not be served unless they are wearing a facemask. The call is a protective measure against the spread of the coronavirus, as latest research shows that the virus can be airborne.
Following the statement by BAM. All commercial banks in the country will not allow nor serve customers that are not wearing a mask, as BAM chief executive officer Lyness Nkungula urged customers to use digital platforms for transactions.
The banks have cojointly made the call after the National Bank of Malawi has announced the temporary closure of the Chichiri Service Centre, following an outbreak of coronavirus as some of the branch’s members of staff tested positive. A notice by management has outlined that the closure will last two weeks, as the premises will undergo disinfection. While the bank is closed, the rest of the staff will be on self quarantine and a clearance test will be implemented upon the reopening of the branch. Meanwhile, management has urged customers to use nearby branches at Shoprite or Top Mandala Service center.
