Officials from several banks engaged the Inspector General concerning security, after banks have faced robberies, specifically 10 registered in the last two months,
Kainja described the closed door meeting as productive, as the police have since committed to providing free armed guard services to the banks, and provide patrols. On the other hand he urged the banks themselves to enhance their security controls.
On April 19, K10.9 million was stolen from First Capital Bank’s Limbe Branch by robbers who entered the bank through the rooftop and later drilled a hole in the banking vault using grinders. The robbery took place after robbers also hit FDH Bank’s Lunzu Branch on April 17 where they went away with about K30 million.
