The Lilongwe City Council has on Wednesday sealed the ADL House and part of Bingu International Convention Center (BICC) as part of a campaign to recover over K11.90 billion owed by the two institutions.
According to the council’s public relations officer Tamara Chafunya, BICC owes the council K90 million while ADL owes over K11 billion. “The council has been engaging the property owners for some time including providing waivers, and we feel it is time something is done to recover the money.” said Chanfunya.
On the other hand, ADL House released a statement, outlining that city council sealed their establishment despite unfailed payment of city rates. In the statement, ADL house has committed to resolving all issues as soon as possible. Part of the statement reads, “The sealing of ADL house is an unfortunate development as we were looking forward to a meeting with officials from Lilongwe City Assembly to discuss, among other issues, emerging concerns on service delivery as well as the deteriorating infrastructure standards in the Lumbadzi Housing Estate and the Airport in general.”
