The Minister of Health Khumbize Chiponda said the 300-bed facility for Covid-19 patients at Bingu National Stadium has been temporarily closed due to a reduction in admission cases in the country’s referral hospitals.
“I would like to inform the nation that currently, we do not have any patients at the Bingu Stadium Field Hospital.” said the Minister, “Due to reduced number of admissions, those that need admissions are being attended to at Kamuzu Central Hospital treatment centre [formerly skin clinic].”
While she assured that the facility will remain intact in case of any rise in Covid-19 cases, Chiponda warned that there could be a third wave of Covid if people stop following coronavirus preventative measures. Meanwhile, other countries on the continent have started reporting the third wave of the pandemic, with Kenya making an announcement last Friday.
