Blantyre Water Board (BWB) will on Monday, August 20,20l8 embark on a second phase of installing prepaid metering system in some areas within its jurisdiction.
In a statement released on Friday, the installation will start with Chiwembe area, Chichiri, Ginnery corner, Old Naperi, Mandala, Mount Pleasant, Sunnyside, Namiwawa and Nyambadwe
The statement said the board will announce specific dates of installation for each of the mentioned areas as the project progresses.
“As such, the board requests customers to allow its plumbers to access the meter points for this exercise.
“If the meter cannot be accessed for any reason, owners will be requested to schedule an appointment with the board for the replacement of their meters,” reads part of the statement.
There have been allegations that BWB customers are footing the meter cost which is at KI80, 000 and they are deducted each time they are buying water units.
But the statement said there will be no any expense to the customers as the entire cost of installation of the prepaid meter is covered by BWB.
It added that the prepaid meters will be preloaded with l000 litres of water whose cost will be removed during purchase of water credit by customers.
