In March 2017, few months after he was elected city mayor, Councilor Wild Ndipo disclosed plans to construct the terminal in the commercial city.

Two years later, not a single brick has been laid as Blantyre City Council has disclosed that potential partners for the proposed have not been found yet.

The bus terminal was announced together with car park which was expected to accommodate over 300 vehicles to ease parking challenges in the city.
