6 years ago on October 19, the Escom House located on Haile Sellasie caught fire, as property worth millions, along with revenue documents, were all in ash. The two story building had both floors burnt by fire that erupted the previous night.

6 years forward, the building that housed Escom Headquarters remains sealed and inaccessible to the general public, rendering the building without use, in the heart of Blantyre for more than half a decade. Escom has recently placed an ad in the newspapers, announcing a contract for the demolition of the burnt Escom house, priced at K675 million.

The contract, will be rewarded in line with section 48 of the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Act No. 27 of 2017.
