According to Blantyre City Council, business activities in the city have been noted to be rising, as the council anticipates more businesses to be registered in the 2019/20 financial year.

The above was confirmed to BCC director of commerce, industry and trade Dennis Chinseu who confidently predicted  that 7500 businesses will be licensed in the 2019/2020 financial year. On revenue collection from businesses, he said their target for the previous financial year was projected at K480 million, but they collected about K470 million. BCC’s spokesperson Anthony Kasunda revealed to The Nation newspapers that the council had projected to collect K3.9 billion from 26 markets.

During briefing on business premises licencing activities for the 2019/20 financial year, BCC has warned that businesses operating without licences will be shut down, effective July 1, as  business firms have been urged to renew their business premise licences for the forthcoming financial year.
