In the past three months, the South African rand recorded stability, as analysts have hailed the development as being beneficial for Malawi’s businesses.
The last 2 weeks of January saw the South African currency flactuating, while the situation was also traced back in September 2018, when the nation’s economists forewarned of poor economic fundamentals that would affect the currency.
An economists team had studied the matter and expected a mild improvement of 0.64% in the second quarter of 2018 but the situation only got worse. 5 months later into January, a Reuters poll showed that the Rand will lose half of its 7% gains made against the United States Dollar in the next 12 months from the analysis.
Recently, figures from the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) show that the rand has been trading between K50 and K58 to the kwacha before it stabilised to trade at K48 from July to date.
