According to Blantyre Water Board, Chief Executive Officer, Daniel Chaweza, the parastatal is losing K1.1 billion due to burst pipes.
“We are losing revenue because of these water loses and it does affect the board greatly. For our customers it means no water supply and for us no revenue to re-invest in our services,” Chaweza said.
The news was revealed when the water board welcomed three Japanese expatriate volunteers, who are joining the firm under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) volunteer project. They have arrived to help implement alternatives on dealing with various technical challenges including non-revenue water.
