Blantyre Water Board (BWB) has put together systematic strategies to increase its customer base in the short tomedium terms.
BWB Chief Executive Officer Dan Chaweza revealed that the board is working on the Likhubula-Mulanje Water project which is going to bring us about 20,000 cubic meters per day in addition to 96,000 cubic meters.
He also revealed plans to construct a new intake along Shire River by July which will bring more water. Meanwhile, the Secretary for Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development, Grey Nyandule Phiri, said 87% of the local population has access to safe drinking water, as stakeholders are working with the government to cater for the remaining 13%.
