A statement by The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services has warned that the country will experience increased rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms from 16 February to the 21st.
Increased activity at the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone coupled with the influx of Congo air mass, will cause an increase in rains, says the statement. “The heavy episodes of rains are expected to cover mostly the central and southern highlands. Therefore, people should exercise caution during this period to avoid accidents.” said the Director of Climate Change and Meteorological Services Department Jolamu Nkhokwe.
On the other hand, The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (Dodma) has outlined that 21,826 households were affected in Likoma District after strong winds and heavy rains destroyed houses and property.
