After erecting a wall worth $4.2m to protect theft of the nation’s rare stone known as tanzanite, Tanzanian President John Magufuli has ordered the ministry responsible for the mines to install CCTV cameras inside the mines too.
Meanwhile the rise in tanzanite revenues rose to Tsh1.28 billion ($461,000), from a low of Tsh166 million ($74,000) recorded in January 2015, a development attributed to the wall erected.
