Parliament spokesperson Ian Mwenye has announced that President Lazarus Chakwera has assented to all 12 bills that Parliament passed into law.
The above means that the K100,000 tax free band is now in effect, as well as the 20% taxation on winnings from bets. “I can confirm that the bills that were sent to the president have been assented to. What remains is now gazetting them before they become operational. Gazetting will be done as soon as possible,” Mwenye said.
One of the 12 bills also includes the Constitutional Amendment which will see the next tripartite elections being held on September 16, 2025. And another electoral law will see Malawi Electoral Commission applying the 50% plus one to presidential elections where winners will have to get over 50% of total votes cast.
