Last summer, the Minister of Minister of Economic Planning and Development (also Vice President) Saulos Chilima met with ministries, departments, agencies (MDAs), parastatals and constitutional bodies to implement reforms in these public sectors. Chilima’s office has confirmed that the VP will re-engage all 135 institutions to review progress made.
Chilima will be following up on the progress made after the said sectors signed reform performance contracts with President Lazarus Chakwera. From March 9 2021 to March 12 2021, the VP will meet with ministries at his Conference Room at Capital Hill in Lilongwe. “The second set of the meetings – to be held virtually through Zoom – will involve parastatals from March 15 2021 to April 1 2021. A total of 66 parastatals will be engaged during this period,” reads part of the statement.
Meetings with local councils based in the Central Region will be held at Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe while for Northern Region-based councils, the meetings will take place at Mzuzu Sunbird Hotel. Mount Soche Hotel will host meetings for Southern Region-based local councils.
Also according to the statement, the fourth and last set of the meetings will be [with] constitutional bodies, the Judiciary and the Malawi Parliament via Zoom starting from April 21 2021 to April 23 2021.
