The Chinese Government has donated 5000 face masks and 2500 hospital caps to Christian Health Association of Malawi (Cham).
Chinese Deputy Ambassador Wang Xinsheng presented the donation to Cham executive director Happy Makala, who outlined that the equipment be distributed among some of the 179 facilities they operate nationwide.
The donation follows 2 months after the Chinese embassy in Malawi announced it will donate personal protective equipment(PPE) to Malawi’s three Major hospitals to help Malawi in fighting against COVID-19. Prior to the Cham donation, China donated PPE to Kamuzu Central, Mzuzu Central and Queens Elizabeth Central Hospitals. The recent donation saw each of the three central hospitals getting 10,000 disposable medical masks, 7,000 surgical masks, 300 N95 masks, 300 sets of protective suits and goggles, 1,000 pairs of gloves and 20 thermometers while each of the three city’s councils will get 2,000 disposable medical masks and 2 infrared thermometers.
Months later, Xinsheng said China is still committed to helping Malawi fight the spread of the pandemic. As of 3:10pm today (6 June), Malawi has registered 336 cases, 42 recoveries and 4 deaths.
