The Chinese Ambassador to Malawi, Hongyang Liu, signed for a $3 million funding that has been provided through the echnical Cooperation for Agricultural Cooperation between China and Malawi project.
Minister of Finance, Joseph Mwanamveka cosigned the agreements, stating that the funding will not be taken for granted. “The Government of Malawi will provide all necessary support for smooth implementation of the projects,”he said. Under the signed agreements, China will dispatch eight experts to Malawi to conduct research, demonstration, promotion and training on agricultural technologies used in horticulture as well as maize and rice production.
Liu said improving agricultural technologies is one of the dispensable parts of eight major initiatives implemented in collaboration with Africa for Industrial Promotion, Trade Facilitation and Green Development among others.
On the other hand, agriculture seems to be an overly relied revenue stream, as other stakeholders recommend diversification of agricultural output, as the usual cash crops have seen declining responses on the market.
