As safety measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the country, Blantyre City Council has banned, with immediate effect, all large gatherings including street vending, weddings, parties, and other social gatherings.
A statement by Mayor Wild Ndipo has outlined that the council and Malawi Police Service together with other collaborating partners will intensify inspection of all business premises, offices, shops, all residential areas and other public premises to make sure that all these measures are being followed, namely having water buckets and hand washing soap which entrants can use before accessing the said premises.
The mayoral statement outlines that henceforth, this is a month for safety. “We have declared a month long “Make Your Environment Coronavirus Free Campaign” to ensure that every resident is taking lead in abiding by the measures that have been put in place to prevent the spread of the virus.” says part of the statement.
Advising on the limited gatherings, the Council shall use all available pieces of legislation to ensure that the set hygiene standards are complied with and our residents are protected. “In conclusion, the Council would like to make an appeal to all residents to utilise the toll free line 526 for any inquiries.” states the mayor.
