Following confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the country, Blantyre City Council has intensified patrols to keep residents safe, while announcing that night clubs and similar businesses that will not comply with the instruction to close, will have their business certificates revoked.
Blantyre Mayor Wild Ndipo emphasized that closure of such facilities will help reduce the spread of the virus, as gatherings including wedding receptions, engagements, night clubs and parties remain banned. “I wanted to emphasise that whatever I had said about the wedding celebrations, social gatherings, night clubs and engagements are still under ban until the scare of the virus is lessened, then health officials will advise us when to uplift this ban,” Ndipo said.
On the other hand, the council plans to disinfect the city’s markets to prevent the outbreak of the pandemic in the markets, which have traffic.
