The civil aviation department has written a letter to the Office of the President and Cabinet, revealing their intention to go on strike.
In the letter, the workers of the department have outlined their grievances, stating that they need protective gear against covid-19, promotions, among others. Seeing that airports are still operational following the arrival of medicine and materials for coronavirus, the aviation workers have demanded to be protected also.
In 2015, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) was established to be responsible for airports operations and other aviation activities while the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) would oversee regulations. The strike follows many amidst the coronavirus pandemic, having similar grievances; health workers, game rangers, truck drivers and the Malawi Police have also made the same demands in the last to months
