The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Secretary General Chileshe Kapwepwe expressed that her organisation will continue supporting Malawi in its development activities.
Kapwepwe announced the above, after a bilateral meeting with Hon. Francis Kasaila M. P, Minister of Foreign Affairs and international Cooperation in Niamey, Niger, on the sidelines of the 12th African Union Extraordinary Summit. She said that being a member state, Malawi remains active and Comesa will continue to support it with interventions at program level, sector developments and ensuring that Malawi remains part of COMESA’s priority programs.
In February, launched an initiative for players in the private sector, a development called the Regional Enterprise Competitiveness and and Access to Markets Program (Recamp). In June, COMESA announced the implementation of the Industrial Strategy, following the approval of an Action Plan and Regional Guidelines on Local Content Policy. Ministers responsible for industry from the 21 Member States and their representatives adopted the two instruments during the closure of the 3rd COMESA Ministerial Committee on Industry in Nairobi, Kenya. This paves the way for the implementation of the COMESA Industrial Strategy, which is aimed at supporting structural transformation of regional economies through sustainable and inclusive industrialization. Malawi will reap from such initiatives and may more to come.
