National Construction Industry Council (NCIC) has pushed for the implementation of the long waited Access To Information (ATI) Act to ensure transparency in the award of contracts in the construction industry.
NCIC director of enforcement Gerald Khonje told The Nation newspapers that procuring and disposing entities (PDEs) in the public sector do not provide contract information, despite having a Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets (PPDA) Act.
In February, the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA) appointed authorities to drive the board in action, posts including the Chief Secretary, Secretary to the Treasury and the Solicitor General. On the matter of transparency, the PPDA announced of an e-procurement development, that will see a reduction in human interface, an increase in transparency and minimised corruption in procurement and supply chain management.
Last month, the PPDA director general Elias Hausi, outlined that the Authority will first enhance its website to be used as a portal, where procuring entities can deposit their invitation for bids so that everybody should be able to see them online to achieve greater transparency.
